Chingaza Natural Park is a natural reserve not far from the capital city of Colombia
. It spreads over an area of more than 124,000 acres. The park was named after a large lake of the same name.
Chingaza Natural Park stretches along the river of Orinoko and its water is a supply to more than 8 millions of people in Bogotá and its closest surroundings. The park consists of forests high in the mountains of the Andes and many protected species of fauna and flora live in it, some of them are even endemic. Chingaza Natural Park is a home to pumas, jaguars, toucans, Spectacled Bears and ocelots. Gems of flora include eight species of sphagnum and a rare espeletia. The altitude of the park varies from 1,900 to 4,000 meters above the sea level.
