Chengde is a former resort of the Qing Dynasty emperors in China . It is located in the northeastern part of the country, about 180 km northeast of the capital Beijing . This beautiful mountain environment with twelve Buddhist temples served as the second political center. The kings often spent here the whole summer. The entire complex of Chengde had been constructed for almost 90 years, from 1703 to 1790. It covers an area of 5.64 km2, where the largest imperial garden surrounded by a 10 km long wall with more than 90 towers and pavilions found its place. Chengde was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in1994.
