Chùa Một Cột is a pagoda in Vietnam . It is situated in the northern part of the country, in its capital Hanoi . It stands in the middle of a lake full of lotuses. The Origins - Chùa Một Cột is the smallest, nevertheless the most famous pagoda of the city. It was built during the reign of Lý Thái Tông, in the years 1028-1054. more »

The Building
The temple is made of wood, and it stands on a stone pillar with a diameter of 1.25 m. It is designed to resemble a lotus blossom - the Buddhist symbol of purity. The present pagoda is only a replica built in 1960. The original building was destroyed by the French troops, before their withdrawal from Vietnam .Tourist information and destination rating
