Český Krumlov is a historic town in the Czech Republic . It is located in the south of the country on a rocky massive above the Vltava River.

About Český Krumlov

Český Krumlov is considered as the "pearl" of the South Bohemian region and one of the largest castle complexes in the Czech Republic. Český Krumlov was founded by the Vítkovec dynasty in 1253. After their death in 1302 the town was taken over by the Rosenbergs. The symbol of the Rosenbergs was a red five petal rose in a green field, which is used as a symbol of the town Český Krumlov until now. The family ruled until 1602. They gave the town the appearance of the Renaissance and magnificent luxurious aristocratic residence. Petr Vok of Rosenberg sold Český Krumlov to Emperor Rudolf II von Habsburg in 1602. After that, Český Krumlov belonged to the Eggenbergs and the Schwarzenbergs who owned it until 1947, when time the town was nationalised. Český Krumlov was registered as the UNESCO World Site in 1992.

Monuments

The most significant monuments are the castle, the castle gardens with a rococo fountain, the summerhouse Bellarie, the Baroque theater - and the major feature of the town, which is St.Vitus Church, a valuable work of the South Bohemian Gothic architecture.
