The cathedral was built in Gothic style and its architect was Pierre-Louis Carlier. The construction work lasted from 1856 to 1998. The foundation stone was put on July 1st 1854. There is a 30-metres high Gothic arch in the central part of the cathedral with 110 marble tablets attached to it. There is a large round window of truly unbelievable diameter of 6.5 metres in the middle of the arch. The window consists of 20 glass tablets that feature the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The main door, made of glass and bronze, is 5 metres high. There is a northern and a southern portal in the cathedral.
The organ in the cathedral weighs 41 tonnes. Its author is Danion Gonzalez. Cathedrale Notre Dame de la Treille includes seven chapels decorated in the Neo-gothic style. They are: chapel of St Joseph, chapel of Joan of Arc, chapel of John the Apostle, Holy Chapel, chapel of St Charles the Good and chapel of St. Peter.
