Castellar Castle was built in between the 12th and the 15th centuries, and it was established by the reconstruction of an original Arab fortress. It used to serve as the main seat of the Earls of Castellar. The castle has an irregular shape, and it is known for its towers. The above mentioned village is also unique: it is literally stuck to the walls. This proves the fact that Castellar Castle was an administrative centre rather than a defence castle. Castellar Castle has survived in a relatively good condition. It is freely accessible, and it offers magnificent views of the beautiful surrounding countryside. It is an ideal place for the lovers of photography.
You can even stay at one of the special "poorly" equipped rooms. Castellar Castle has been a national cultural monument of Spain since 1949. In 1993, the castle won a special award from the autonomous community of Andalusia as a part of the heritage of this region of Spain .
