Castel Thun was built in the middle of the 13th century and it was used as a noble residence by the Italian branch of the Thuns for many centuries. However, at the beginning of the 20th century they were forced to sell the castle to the Czech branch of the Thuns of Děčín . They did not have enough money to keep it for a long time and reconstruct it so they sold it too. Castel Thun is a combination of a civil and a military building. It has a perfect defensive system with strong towers and solid walls. You will definitely intrigued by the falling bridge.
Inside Castel Thun you will come across perfectly preserved interiors - furniture, complete libraries, collections of weapons, tiled stove and many other items. In addition, there is a beautiful park where concerts and other cultural events take place.
Castel Thun is surrounded with apple-tree orchids. Once under the castle, you should not miss the famous honey shop by renowned honey-producer Andreas Paternoster, who allegedly produces the best honey in the whole Italy .
Castel Thun is usually open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In summer it is open to 6 p.m. Admission: €5 (adults) , €3 (children) .
