All monuments belong to the Koguryo culture. This culture is named after the dynasty that ruled from the 3rd to the 7th centuries in the northern part of China and on the northern half of the Korean peninsula. The whole area has only little been explored. One of the biggest attractions here are the brilliantly designed ceilings in some tombs, which must carry the earth piled above them without any help of pillars of stones. Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom has been registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004..
