The Čap, also called the Čapská palice (Cap Head) is an iron sandstone column, situated on a plateau elevated 386.7 meters above sea. It is the place where towards the end of the 13th century the noble family of Berka of Dubá had a watch tower built. The tower used to stretch above the valley called Čapský důl (Cap Gorge) . At present, you can only identify a part of the cellar structure and the original water reservoir. If you hit the trail to the Čapská palice, you will be impressed wit the spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
The Čap is situated in picturesque landscape with marked hiking and cycling trails. In the near vicinity you will come across a cycling trail called Husí okruh (Goose Loop) . The 23 km long cycling trail is led through forests, valleys and sandstone formations, to Skalka, Obrok, Pavličky, Nad Lhotou, Husa and back to Skalka. In addition, there is a blue tourist trail from Dubá to Zahrádky near Česká Lípa and a yellow trail called Husí cesta (Goose Trail) . You can get directly to the Čap if you take the green trail (it will cross the other trails, too) . The green trail begins in Kravaře and ends at the Čapská palice.
