Byōdō-in

Byōdō-in is a Buddhist temple in Japan . It is situated in the city Uji , in Kyoto Prefecture. It was built in 998. The main building of Byōdō-in stands in front of an artificial pond. The roof of the hall is decorated by sculptures of the Fenghuang, the Chinese phoenix. In the middle of the shrine we can see a golden statue of Amida Buddha from 1053. The paintings on the wooden doors are typical of the traditional Japanese style. The most important part of Byōdō-in is the Phoenix Hall built in 1053. It is a rectangular hall built in the style of Fujiwara Hall of Amida Buddha. In 1994, Byōdō-in was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
