Bwindi National Park is a preserved area in African Uganda. It is located in the southwest part of the country, Kanungu region, spread along the border with Democratic Republic of Congo, on the boundary of the plains and rain forest, close to
National Park Virunga . Bwindi National Park is spread accross 331km
2. It was founded in 1991 and consists mainly of jungle - tropical rain forests, lowland and highland forests. The park is a home for more than 120 species of mammals, 346 species of birds, 202 species of butterflies, 163 species of trees and 100 species of ferns. Among the most endangered animals there are geckos, chameleons and mountain gorillas. Bwindi National Park was registered in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1994.
