Brescia is a beautiful historic city in Lombardy, in northern Italy . It is unique mainly because of the architectural heritage and monuments. It has a population of approximately 190 thousand.
Historical Centre
Brescia city centre comprises four squares - Piazza del Mercato, Piazza della Vittoria, Piazza della Loggia and Piazza Paolo VI. The most beautiful square in the city is the Piazza della Loggia. It dates back to the 15th century and forms a coherent architectural complex. There is Torre Dell'Orologio and, in the northeast corner, there is a medieval defensive tower with a gate. The Piazza Paolo VI consists of two temples, an old church from the 12th century with the remains of the Roman baths, and a new church built in the Renaissance period. In addition,the city Brescia offers remnants of the Roman city Brixie. You can see a theater or a major monument Capitolino - the Roman temple, built in the year 73AD.
Monasteries, churches, museums
Brescia offers to visit monastaries Santa Salvatore and Santa Giulia. The monasteries include three churches. Besides the churches, there is also a city museum. It consists of the Rome museum which present jewelry, glass and sculptures. On the Cydea Hill, you can visit San Pietro in Oliveto Cathedral and Brescia Castle from the 15th century. The castle is now used as a museum of weapons and model railroad.
