Batumi Botanical Garden

Batumi Botanical Garden spreads 9km north from the town Batumi, in Georgia, in a place called Green Cape (Mtsvane Kontskhi) . It lies on the coast of the Black Sea and it is one of the largest botanical gardens in the territory of former Soviet Union. The garden was founded in 1880 by a Russian botanist A. N. Krasnov and experienced gardeners a Frenchman D´Alphonse and a Georgian Gordeziani. There is a grave and a statue dedicated to Krasnov in the botanical grounds. Batumi Botanical Garden was being developed and extended. Recently it has been divided into nine florist parts. There are 2037 species of woody plants when 104 has a Caucasian origin.
