It was owned by the Hont-Poznan noble family. The family associated with Count Matthew of Trencin, who later got the Bojnice Castle in his hands. Then the castle went from hands to hands: it was owned by various Hungarian noblemen, for example, by the Gileths, by the Lords of Jelšava (Jolsva) and then by the Noffry family, who had the Bojnice Castle reconstructed. In the 15th century the castle became the property of the Zapolya family, and then in the 16th century it was in the hands of the richest family in the northern Kingdom of Hungary (now Slovakia) , the Thurzos. The last noble owners of the castle were the Palffys, who had it rebuilt in the Baroque style (in the 17th century) . Beginning from the year 1852 the castle was owned by Count John Francis Palffy, who continued the reconstruction: the Bojnice Castle was remodelled in the Neo-Classicist style by architect J. Hubert from Budapest. Unfortunately, when the Count died, there were long quarrels, and his heirs sold many precious pieces from the castle art collections. In 1939 the castle was bought by the Bata (famous shoemaker company) . After the war Bata´s property was confiscated by the Czechoslovak government. In 1950, a huge fire broke out in the Bojnice Castle. It was reconstructed and changed into a museum. The castle interiors offer a variety of artistic and technical exhibits, most of them collected by the last noble owner, Count John Francis Pallffy. The most valuable piece is the Bojnic Altar made by Nardio di Cione (14th century) . If you take a tour around the museum, the guide will take you to a karstic cave under the castle - Prepoštská Cave. The park in the castle premises is home to one of the oldest zoological garden in Slovakia ..
