Ben Thành Market

Ben Thành Market is a big market in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City , in the south of Vietnam. The market is located in the Phan Chu Trinh street. Ben Thành Market is the oldest surviving market in the city and hence is considered one of its main symbols. The market has become a popular destination for tourists, local craftsmen as well as the city residents. Ben Thành Market started in the 17th century as an assembly point of street vendors. Formally, however, the market started only in 1859 with the construction of the first building. In 1870 it was rebuilt and in 1912 the market was transferred to a new and bigger building and renamed New Ben Thành Market.
