Dominating landmarks and monuments
The most valuable part of the city is the Old Town with distinctive narrow lanes. There is the Cathedral of San Sabino whose oldest part originates from the 12th century. The other significant monuments in Bari are: Basilica of Saint Nicholas (built in 1087) with a tomb of Bona Sforza, Princess of Bari; Petruzzelli Theatre; Normanno Castello Svevo (castle, built in 1131) ; Santa Chira Church (restored in 1539) ; San Marco dei Veneziana (medieval church) ; Santa Teresa dei Maschi (baroque church built between 1690 - 1696) . Bari is famous for beautiful beaches, of which the most beautiful are named the Pane and the Pomodoro Beach, which is the main beach in the city.
