Barbican and City´s Fortification Walls were developed from the first half of the 14th century until the mid 16th century. The oldest part of the fortifications is the barbican. It was built around 1548. Barbican and City´s Fortification Walls were designed to support the defense of the New Town Gate. After Second World War, a part of the walls was restored and the barbican was given its original appearance.
