Baphuon

Baphuon is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva. It can be found in the area of Angkor , Cambodia . Baphuon was founded in the mid-11th century, and it is a typical example of Baphuon architecture. Baphuon neighbours with the gardens of the Royal Palace. In the center of the complex stands the main tower, originally 50 m high, but nowadays it is only 34 m high. Baphuon became a Buddhist temple in the 15th century. On the western side of the temple stood a 9 m high and 70 m long statue of Buddha. Baphuon was built on sandy land, and a big part of the temple, including the sculptures, collapsed. In 2005, the temple complex was reconstructed. Baphuon is partly accessible to public.
