Bangkok is the largest and capital city of Thailand and also a popular destination for tourists. Bangkok is the residence of the royal family. The city is the most important port of Thailand. Thai people settled in the fertile valley of the Chao Phraya in the 13th century and founded the capital Sukhothaj. From 1350 to 1767 Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand. The city was destroyed by Burmese people and General Taksin declared Thonburi as the capital city. Today the Thonburi is a suburb of Bangkok.
