Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland at the east coast of the USA , about 65 km from the capital city Washington D.C. . The port is the cultural centre of the whole state and you will find modern architecture as well as various historical sites there. Baltimore, including the adjucent agglomeration, has 2,200,000 inhabitants.

About the city

One of the greatest tourist attractions in the city is the frigate USS Constellation from 1854, which is anchored among many other historical ships in the city centre- the so-called Inner Harbor. You might also visit the war submarine US Submarine Torsk. The ship Coast Guard Cutter Taney and the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse are a part of the Baltimore Maritime Museum.
The world-famous National Aquarium in Baltimore is situated at the promenade. You can watch dolphins from close proximity or visit the unique Australian exhibition. If you are interested in Arctic flora and fauna, visit the Zoo Maryland , which is home to animals such as the arctic fox or the polar bear.
You may admire the city's eventful history in the nearby Fort McHenry or visit any other local museum, such as the Maryland Science Center , which includes a museum and an observatory.
The best view of Baltimore, which was proclaimed the third best city for shopping by the magazine Forbes in 2010, is from the Baltimore World Trade Center– the highest pentagonal building in the world (123.4 m) . If you want to escape from the modern city, visit the quarter Little Italy. The streets and pizzerias there are undistinguishable from the real ones in Italy. The oldest Roman Catholic basilica in the USA- the Bazilika Baltimore is also worth seeing.

Transport

Baltimore is an important traffic junction. The Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Airport) is only 13 km away. The Pennsylvania Station belongs among the busiest railway stations in the country. The port, established in 1706, is fully modernized and is able to welcome the largest ships in the world.

Aquarium, definitely, go there, you will like it. And there is a Titanic museum just next to it. Very impressive.
