The region including the today´s national park had already been protected in the 1930s already, and the reason is the unique habitat. In 1954 the area was declared the national park. It became the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1976. The present park occupies an area of approximately 34 km2. Its core part is the highest massif of the Zywiecke Beskydes - Babi Gora and the virgin forests. In the park you may come across wildlife, e.g. wolf, lynx or bear. More than 105 species of birds were recognized in the Babia Gora National Park.
Babia Gora National Park offers 11 hiking trails, whose total length is 53 km. Eight educational trails have been built within the park. In winter,visitors will definitely enjoy the cross-country skiing trails whose total length is 6 km.
