Great attention is given to domestic flora. New Zealand's geographic isolation from the rest of the world has caused a high degree of local endemism. It is reported that in New Zealand, there are up to 2357 taxa of vascular plants, 80 percent of which are endemic. The Auckland Botanic Gardens have also been involved in the cultivation of endangered species, including their reintroduction to their original locations and into regional parks. The most important part of the Auckland Botanic Gardens is the Gondwana Arboretum, where we can see selected trees from the whole pre-continent of Gondwana. The Auckland Botanic Gardens pay attention to the flora of South Africa as well, especially to that of the Cape Province. The garden has parts with commercial plants, perennial flower beds, a palm garden, a Rosario and an original New Zealand forest. The local collection of sage and magnolia are famous, too. The area includes a small specialized library with 2,500 books. From mid-October to mid-March, the Auckland Botanic Gardens are opened daily from 8 to 20 hours. The rest of the year, they are opened from Monday to Friday, from 8 to 16 hours. At weekends, the opening hours are from 9 to 16 hours..
