Apollonia are ruins of an antient Greek town in western part of Albania, Fier region, close to Pojan . Apollonia was founded by Greeks in 588 BC in honor of Greek god Apollo. The town used to be business center for Corinth merchants and Illyrian tribes who had been living here side by side with the Greeks for centuries. Apollonia became rich from slave trade. Its port was able to accomodate up to 100 merchant ships at the antient times. The town had its own mint, import of which, especially the trade import, reached up to the Danube delta. Although the town was abandoned in the late antique era, many buildings are still in quite a good state.
