The author of the world-famous sculpture is Antony Gormley, contemporary British sculptor. The Angel of the North is his most famous work of art. It shows all characteristic features of Gormley´s artistic style. The giant sculpture is made of steel. It is 20 metres tall and its wings measure 54 metres. The angel´s wings themselves are angled 3.5° forward, which evokes impression that the angel is to embrace somebody. The sculpture does not show any individual features. Author´s intention was a general expression, he did not plan to depict any specific individual, so the Angel of the North does not have any face.
