"Trulli" Constructions
The Trulli of Alberobello, the characteristic constructions famous all around world, are situated on the western hill. This is the historical part of Alberobello, called Old Town. The houses are built of polished stones piled one on another, no mortar used. Painted with lime, they are brightly white. The conical roof is grey, thus the houses resemble mushrooms. It is widely believed that their designers may have found inspiration in ancient tombs in the Middle East as they had been built like this thousands of years ago. The technology was popular in Alberobello as - in case of royal inspection, they could dismount the house very quickly thus avoid paying taxes very successfully. There is a huge lot of these special houses in Alberobello and in its neighborhood. Places to Visit
