Akaroa is the oldest town in the region Canterbury, in New Zealand . It is situated on the Banks Peninsula , not far from Lyttelton and Christchurch. Akaroa was founded by French settlers as early as 1840. The French historical buildings still show French influence in the area. The most interesting sights of Akaroa include: the Langlois-Eteveneaux House - probably built in France and transported to Akaroa in 1845. more »
