Abomey Royal Pallaces are remnants of vanished Benin kingdom located in the south, Zou region, in Abomey
town. From 1625 to 1900 in fact 12 kings were rulling here. Abomey Royal Pallaces and the whole town were surrounded by clay wall and moat with thorny acacias. Very effective utilisation of the internal area is still evident. The last king, Behazin, was beaten by French colonial army, he burnt the town and escaped. The French rebuilt the town and connected it with the coast by railway. Abomey
is a center of crafts and one of popular tourist destinations. From 1985 Abomey Royal Pallaces is listed in UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
